Georgia One of Five Saddest States Based on Tweets

A report titled "The Geography of Happiness: Connecting Twitter sentiment and expression, demographics, and objective characteristics of place" has placed the Peach State at the bottom of its happiness gauge.

Twitter users in Georgia have possibly given the state a bad rap — a report from the Vermont Complex Systems Center lists the Peach State as one of the five saddest states, according to a post by PC Magazine.

The report charts a "Georgraphy of Happiness" based on more than 10 million tweets from 373 urban areas posted during the 2011 calendar year. To measure sentiment, researchers scored words on a scale from one (sad) to nine (happy).

"The happiest 5 states, in order, are: Hawaii, Maine, Nevada, Utah and Vermont. The saddest 5 states, in order, are: Louisiana, Mississippi, Maryland, Delaware and Georgia," the report reads.

But the study's greatest fault, PC Magazine says, lies in its unbiased approach, as different people talk about feelings differently.
