Man Explains He Was 'Making Bombs, Not Discharging a Firearm'

Making bombs is not a good idea. That was the sage advice a Barrow County Sheriff's deputy gave an Auburn man after being dispatched to the Enclave Way home on Sept. 1 in response to a report of shots fired.

A neighbor had called authorities after hearing what he thought was gunfire. Taking matters into his own hand, the neighbor decided to ask the Auburn man to stop firing his gun.


"[The neighbor] reported that he approached [the Auburn man] and asked him not to discharge the firearms," the deputy wrote in the report. "[The neighbor] reported that [the Auburn man] stated that he was making bombs, not discharging a firearm, but agreed to stop causing the explosions."

When confronted by the deputy, the Auburn man explained he was mixing chemicals in a plastic bottle in order to cause an explosion. The chemical mixing, he said, was part of his nephew's science experiment.

The deputy advised the Auburn man that "while his intentions were innocent, the mixing of the chemicals for the purpose of creating an explosion was not a good idea."

No arrests were made.
