Man Reportedly Steals Car of Woman Who Bonded Him out of Jail

After five days of waiting for an acquaintance to return her vehicle, a Bethlehem woman decided to report the 2004 Ford Expedition as stolen.

The woman contacted the Barrow County Sheriff's Office on Aug. 16 and said an acquaintance -- who she had bonded out of jail two weeks prior to the incident -- had borrowed her vehicle on Aug. 11 and had yet to return it.

The woman said she became worried when the vehicle was not returned on the evening of the 11th and made contact via text message with the male acquaintance.

"She reported that, since Sunday, she and [the man] had exchanged approximately 150 text messages," the deputy wrote in the incident report. "The messages ranged from 'Bring my s**t home!' to general questions regarding the whereabouts of the vehicle."

In one of the texts, the man reportedly advised he was sending someone to the woman's residence with the vehicle. As of the time of the report, he had failed to do so.

The woman informed the deputy she had been stranded at her residence since loaning the vehicle to the man and that her children had missed school and doctor's appointments due to lack of transportation.

The vehicle was listed on the state criminal information database as stolen.
