Motorcyclist Attacked While Waiting at Red Light

Assailant reportedly stole the motorcyclist's backpack.

A 29-year-old Bethlehem motorcyclist was left with swollen lips after being assaulted while stopped for a red light on Atlanta Highway at Hwy. 53.

The Bethlehem man said while he was waiting at the light, a man exited a Jeep and began hitting him in the face. The motorcyclist said he did not know the man who attacked him.

According to the motorcyclist, he and the other man began fighting as the alleged attacker attempted to take the motorcyclist's backpack. A witness to the incident said she heard the attacker ordering the motorcyclist to hand over the backpack. The witness said the male then jerked the backpack off the motorcycle rider.

The backpack contained various electronics including a Dell laptop, an Android phone and a Galaxy tablet. The total value of property reported stolen during the Sept. 17 incident was $1,470.

The motorcyclist told the investigating deputy he believes the perpetrator may be a customer at the tattoo shop where he works.
