Paraglider Crashes At GA Airport

A man operating a paraglider was found unresponsive and not alert after crashing at a Georgia airport.

WINDER, GA — A man is injured after a paraglider crashed Thursday afternoon at the Barrow County Airport, authorities said.

Deputies responded around 1 p.m. to the crash at the Ronald Wood Road airport in Winder, according to the Barrow County Sheriff's Office.

When they arrived with emergency personnel, authorities said they found the man who had been operating a paraglider unresponsive and not alert. However, he was breathing at the time, authorities said.

The man was taken to a hospital for further evaluation and treatment, authorities said. The cause of the crash is unknown.

In a news release, Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith acknowledged the 911 caller who reported the crash.

“The swift action of the citizen who called 911 ensured a rapid response from first responders," Smith said in the release. “Their attentiveness played an important role in getting help to the injured individual as quickly as possible.”

The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified and will be investigating the crash, authorities said.
