Sheriff's Office: Teen Watched Barrow Teacher's Child While She Sought Controlled Substance

The former Barrow County teacher is accused of arranging the sale of a controlled substance to the teen, who was found dead at her Winder residence Feb. 14.

A former Barrow County teacher is facing charges stemming from an investigation into the death of an 18-year-old.

According to a news release by the Barrow County Sheriff's Office, the female victim, whose name is being withheld, was allowed to supervise Emily Susan Smith's minor child while Smith, who was employed as a sixth-grade math teacher at Winder-Barrow Middle School at the time, attempted to obtain a controlled substance.
