Winder Intersection Closures Planned This Week

To date, 217 of 350 concrete panels have been installed.

Two intersections will be closed at various times this week as the Georgia Department of Transportation continues work on the downtown Winder road and streetscape project.

As of Friday, Sept. 13, 217 of 350 concrete panels had been installed. More panels are scheduled to be installed Monday, Sept. 16, at the intersection of Candler Street and Broad Street. The intersection will be closed to traffic on the courthouse side as the panels are put in place. The intersection will reopen Tuesday morning.

On Thursday night, intersection work will move to Midland Avenue on the courthouse side as more slabs are installed. That area will reopen to traffic on Friday, Sept. 20.

Daytime work on sidewalks, curbing and gutter construction will continue this week between Porter Street and Athens Street. Nighttime work will result in the closure of the westbound lane of Broad Street from Candler Street to Midland Avenue this week.

The 0.72-mile long, $4.9-million project has an expected completion date of July 31, 2014.
