BUFORD, GA -- The man and woman found dead in a Buford apartment Monday afternoon have been identified and the cause of their death as been determined murder, suicide, according to Gwinnett Police.

Lachica Ringwood, 39, and Jamaya Morris, 40, were both residing at the apartment where they were found, police said. Officers from the North Precinct responded to perform a welfare check on Lachica at the request of her family member. The family member told police she had not spoken to Lachica in a couple of days, which was abnormal, and she was concerned for Lachica’s safety.

Lachica’s boyfriend, Jamaya, had openly argued with Lachica in front of the family and had recently made comments that had them concerned. Officers saw no signs of forced entry to the apartment and were let in by apartment staff to perform a welfare check when no one would come to the door. Officers found Lachica and Jamaya dead inside the apartment.

Jamaya was lying on top of Lachica and had an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Once his body was removed, detectives discovered that Lachica also had a gunshot wound that appeared to be the result of her death. The evidence and scene examination has led detectives to believe this case is a murder/suicide with Lachica Ringwood being the victim.
