Buford Mom Told Child Who Was Sexually Abused To Lie: DA
Prosecutors say the girl's mom coached her to lie to officials and to change her story in efforts to get the abuser released from jail.
BUFORD, GA — A Buford couple was sentenced to prison after being convicted in the sexual abuse of a 7-year-old girl at their apartment, Gwinnett County prosecutors said Thursday.
A jury found Javen Tyree Richardson, 25, guilty of four counts of aggravated child molestation, prosecutors said.
Additionally, Akilah Amin, the 30-year-old mother of the child, was found guilty of influencing a witness and second-degree cruelty to children, prosecutors said.

Richardson sexually abused the girl several times, and the girl told her school about the abuse, prosecutors said. They added Amin then coached the girl to lie to officials and to change her story in efforts to get Richardson released from jail, prosecutors said.
The girl testified during the trial before the jury, prosecutors said.

Richardson was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences with the first 80 years to serve in prison, and Amin was sentenced to 20 years with the first seven years to serve in prison, prosecutors said.
They both must register as sex offenders and cannot have contact with the girl or her siblings, prosecutors said.
“Justice for this young victim begins with the outcome of this trial,” Gwinnett District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson said in a news release. “Her family and her loved ones must continue to help her recover and heal.”
