Homicide Suspect On The Run Arrested In Wisconsin

A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed in Buford July 1.

A 20-year-old Jonesboro man charged with murder, armed robbery, and aggravated assault stemming from an incident in early July has been arrested in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Savion Dillard was arrested Tuesday and will be extradited back to Georgia, according to a news release from the Gwinnett County Police Department (GCPD).

Detectives believe that Dillard and Denzel Wilburn, 21, of Buford, traveled to 4555 Thompson Mill Road, Buford, on July 1 where a shooting occurred, GCPD added.

"Police were called when a 15-year-old male was shot behind the store. The teenage victim was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries," GCPD added. "[Police] learned the victim and his friend, a witness, were at the location when a male in his 20s approached them. The suspect fired a shot striking the victim. The suspect then fled on foot."

The victim was identified as Branden Gerena, 25, of Buford. Wilburn was arrested and booked into the Gwinnett County Jail on July 3. He was charged with armed robbery and conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor.
