Motorcyclist Thrown In Fatal Crash, Passenger Narrowly Survives

A motorcyclist died Sunday when he was thrown from the bike into traffic and hit by a tractor trailer, police said.

BUFORD, GA -- A motorcyclist died Sunday when he was ejected into traffic and hit by a tractor trailer after crashing into a stopped car on the I-85 south shoulder, according to Gwinnett Police. The motorcyclist was traveling northbound on the southbound shoulder, police said. The passenger jumped off the back just prior to the collision and received minor injuries.

Eduard Onufriychuk, 25, of Maysville, died as a result of his injuries.

According to police, the investigation into the case revealed that Onufriychuk was traveling south on I-85, near Mile Marker 125, on the right shoulder. A gray Nissan Altima, was parked on the shoulder of the roadway and unoccupied. Onufriychuk attempted to swerve and avoid colliding with the Nissan Altima but was unable to do so in time.

His passenger jumped off the back just prior to the collision and received minor injuries. Onufriychuk struck the vehicle and was ejected from his motorcycle, police said. He landed in the right travel lane of I-85S and was struck by a tractor trailer, resulting in his death. No other injuries were reported.
