Pet Dog Dies in Buford House Fire

A Monday night fire on Harbor Drive displaced a family of four and caused heavy damage.

A family of four was displaced and a pet dog perished Monday night when fire caused heavy damage to their Buford-area home.

The fire was reported after 8 p.m. Monday in the 5700 block of Harbor Drive, Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said in a news release.

Rutledge said two people -- a mother and child -- were at the home when the fire broke out, and escaped unharmed.

The fire was brought under control by 8:50 p.m.

Fire investigators believe the fire was set accidentally when the pilot light on the water heater ignited a nearby open gas line.
