- Cherokee County and Canton officials hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for The Technology Ridge Parkway on Friday. This is step one in a five-step project to be completed in collaboration with Cherokee County, Canton, the Cherokee Office of Economic Development, and a funding partnership with the State Authority and Tollway Authority. The project will connect Bluffs Parkway to the Cherokee County Regional Airport. The project will bring more job opportunities to the area and make airport access easier. - The Cherokee County Senior Services is accepting donations for its annual Adopt a Senior program. The program was created to help spread cheer in time for the holidays to local seniors. Requested gift items include $25 grocery store gift cards, books of stamps, a set of new bed sheets, and other nonperishable items. Unwrapped gifts can be dropped off in a holiday gift bag at the Cherokee County Senior Center in Canton between Oct. 17 and Dec. 2 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday. - Officials report that there were no injuries following a fire that occurred Friday afternoon at Harmon Circle. The Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services department responded to a house fire at noon. Smoke was coming out of the residence, but officials say there was no one found inside the home. The cause of the fire is unknown. (Canton-Sikes Patch)
- The Cherokee County School District has reported a record number of graduates with 92.3 percent of the class of 2022 earning a diploma. “This new benchmark is a testament to the hard work of our graduates and support of their families, and the dedication of our teachers, support staff, leaders and community partners and volunteers to make preparing our students for future success our top priority,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. - On Saturday, Oct. 8, a group of 40 volunteers that packed 408 boxes of food in less than 2 hours at SERV International's warehouse in Canton. These boxes of food will be shipped to Ukraine for relief in the wartorn country. (Rotary Club of Canton via Facebook)
- There are volunteer opportunities for pet lovers at multiple locations in Cherokee County! Those interested in volunteering can fill out a volunteer recruitment form. (Cherokee Humane Society via Facebook)
- Truck 1, Engine 19, and Battalion 1 rescued a cat that was trapped by partially buried concrete slabs. Firefighters used cribbing and spreaders to gain access to the cat and removed it from harm. The cat was reunited with its family. (Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services via Facebook)
