- The new mural at Boling Park has been unveiled, the work was created by local artist Rob Walker-Bunda with input from and collaboration with high school student Emily Hamilton and the nonprofit Art in the Paint. The basketball court mural, titled "Unite," represents the unity of the Canton community. At the unveiling, Walker-Bunda spoke of the meaning behind and creation of the mural. If you haven't had a chance to see the public art piece, Boling Park is located at 1200 Marietta Highway. (Canton City News)
- Believe it or not, it's almost time for school, and the Cherokee County School District (CCSD) has posted some important dates. The upcoming 2023-24 school year starts on Aug. 1, front offices at the schools open on July 10, class schedules, bus stop information and teacher assignments will be available online on July 26 and during the walk-through events on July 27, 28 and 31. School supply lists are already posted, and on July 1, the lunch payment system will switch over to the new system, LINQ Connect. - Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) responded to a hazardous material spill yesterday at the intersection of Springs Crossing and Blankets Creek Parkway. The area was blocked off while the muriatic acid spill was cleaned up by the CCFES Hazardous Materials Team, and the road was opened up within an hour or so. The Hazardous Materials Team also steps in to help first responders in surrounding areas of Northern Georgia when needed. (CCFES via Facebook)
- Seven people have been sentenced after being found guilty in 2021 for around 50 car break-ins that took place in Cherokee County back in 2019. The guilty parties stole three cars and took items from the rest of the vehicles, including five guns. Charges brought against the men included violation of the RICO Act, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and theft by taking, and the men all received a sentenced of 20 years, with mandatory prison times ranging from 10 to 15 years. (Atlanta News First)
- There is a grand opening planned for Wednesday for the Heritage Park Playground. The playground is the city's latest, and it features two play structures, a slide built into the hill, swings, a turf play surface and an ADA accessible sidewalk surrounding the playground. There will be tasty treats from King of Pops, too. The park is located at 508 Riverstone Parkway, and the fun starts at 10 a.m. (City of Canton via Facebook)

- Canton Farmers Market: Head down to Brown Park, between the Cherokee County History Museum and the Canton Police Department, where you'll find tons of locally grown food items, including produce, baked goods, flowers and other food-related goods every Saturday. (9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.)
- Plant Vendor Market & Workshop: The market will feature 30 local vendors offering houseplants, baked goods and much more at The Mill on Etowah, 225 Reformation Parkway. (11 a.m. - 5 p.m.)
- Carter Horne: The artist will be playing live today at the Canton Cigar Bar, 225 Reformation Parkway. (6 - 9 p.m.)
- Stephanie Berlanga: Enjoy great music and food at Riverstone Corner Bistro, 151 Reinhardt College Parkway. (7 - 9 p.m.)
- Eric Thomas: The musician is playing at J. Michael's Prime, 110 Mountain Vista Blvd. (7 - 9 p.m.)
- "A Bad Year For Tomatoes": The play follows Myra Marlowe, as she moves into a house in New England to write an autobiography amidst her struggles with privacy and her neighbors. The performance will be held at the Canton Theatre, 171 E. Main St. (8 - 10 p.m.)
- JuiceBox: The band is playing at Canton Icehouse tonight, 150 Keith Drive. (9 p.m. - midnight)
Sunday, June 25
- Hike + Yoga: Hike around a mile to the river with Kaitlin Coleburn from Horizon Healing Center, where you'll have a yoga class, meditation and savasana. Please bring water and snacks, the meet-up spot is at North Gate Station, at 60 N. Gate Station Drive, in front of the ice cream shop. (9 a.m. - noon)
- Texas Style Breakfast: Paula's Zzerts and The Smokin' Texan are hosting, and the food will be served until it's gone. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and there will be cornhole and sidewalk chalk to entertain. Paula's Zzerts is located at 140 Keith Drive. (11 a.m. - 2 p.m.)
- Braves Game on The Big Screen: Watch the game with your favorite neighbors, friends and family at The Mill on Etowah, 225 Reformation Parkway. (1:40 - 4 p.m.)
- Chad Patterson: Enjoy the live music at the Canton Cigar Bar, 225 Reformation Parkway. (4 - 6 p.m.)

- The Cherokee County Animal Shelter is holding their weekly adoption event today. The available animals can be seen online here, please follow the instructions found at the link for getting into the "virtual line." Adoption hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and the shelter is located at 1015 Univeter Road. (Cherokee County Animal Shelter via Facebook)
- While you're downtown at the farmers market today, please remember to pick up after your pets. Unfortunately, this hasn't consistently been done by marketgoers and the market has put out a word of warning. They will need to disallow dogs if the issue isn't resolved. - For the softball players around town, it's time to sign up for the fall season with Cherokee Recreation & Parks. Registration closes on July 23; you can sign up here. The season starts in August — the men's group plays on Mondays and Wednesdays; the coed group plays on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and the church group plays on Thursdays.
