Boy 10, Saves Parents, Toddler, In Cherokee Fire That Destroys Home

A 10-year-old boy saved his family moments before a fire destroyed their home, according to Cherokee County fire officials.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — A 10-year-old boy saved his family from a fire early Thursday that destroyed his home, according to fire officials.

Cherokee firefighters responded to the fire around 2 a.m. on Silver Creek Drive, off Highway 108, near Waleska. Fire officials said the boy woke up when he heard what sounded like fireworks. He saw the front porch and part of the roof were on fire.

The boy, identified as Zizo Knight, was able to wake up his parents and 18-month-old brother before the home’s roof caved in.

The house was extensively damaged. The American Red Cross Pickens County Fire Department assisted.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
