Canton Man Indicted On Charges Related To Alleged Crime Spree

Jacob Cole Henson is accused of pointing a firearm at three residents, stealing several vehicles and committing two burglaries.

CANTON, GA — A Cherokee County man has been indicted on a slew of charges related to a crime spree in which he allegedly committed burglaries, stole several, pointed a firearm at three people and fled from police during a chase.

A Cherokee County grand jury last week indicted Jacob Cole Henson on 11 counts of theft by taking; two counts each of burglary in the first degree, fleeing or attempting to elude police, theft by receiving stolen property and criminal damage to property in the second degree; and one count each of aggravated assault, entering auto, criminal attempt to commit a felony, reckless conduct, reckless driving, and failure to wear protective gear on a motorcycle.

Deputies with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office in August apprehended Henson after he'd been on the run from law enforcement for more than a week. Henson, who was 25 at the time of his arrest, was taken into custody after a local resident held him at gunpoint, the sheriff's office previously told Patch.

Henson was tracked down during the early hours of Monday, Aug. 13 when deputies responded to a report of an accident on Little Refuge Road in Waleska. They found a vehicle still running but unoccupied; it had been reported as stolen Sunday night from Dawson County.

Due to similar incidents occurring around the county, a perimeter was established around the crime scene to allow deputies to begin the hunt for Henson. Over the next few hours, the deputies and investigators searched the area for Henson. At about 12:30 p.m., the deputies spotted him riding a dirt bike on Little Refuge Road. After a short chase, Henson crashed the dirt bike and fled into the woods, the sheriff's office said.

While pursuing the suspect, deputies heard gunshots nearby and came upon a citizen who was holding Henson at gunpoint. After his arrest, he was transported to Northside Hospital Cherokee for examination stemming from injuries sustained in the dirt bike accident.

Throughout his crime spree, Henson in July allegedly stole a 2004 Kawasaki ninja 636 motorcycle, 1999 Chevrolet C1500 pickup truck, a Yamaha four-wheeler, another Kawasaki motorcycle and a Honda four-wheeler on separate occasions; burglarized a home on Fincher Road in Waleska on July 23; received a stolen 2017 Kawasaki Brute motorcycle; stole an ATV, which he damaged by crashing into the back gate of a resident's home; and took 2003 Honda 50cc motorcycle he used to flee deputies attempting to capture him on the chase, according to warrants.

After he took a truck from a home on Yellow Creek Road in Ball Ground, Henson fled the scene only to be followed by three witnesses who observed the theft. They caught up with the suspect, who eventually brandished a firearm towards the three witnesses, the Cherokee Sheriff's Office previously said.

He also stole another person's Toyota Corolla, rummaged through a resident's purse that was housed inside her vehicle, tried to break into a shed belonging to a citizen and stole two additional pickup trucks. In early August, Henson, who was driving a pickup truck carrying a stolen blue Yamaha four-wheeler, fled deputies who were trying to conduct a traffic stop.

During the chase, Henson allegedly stopped to let a female passenger out of the vehicle. However, before she could get completely out of the truck, Hanson sped away, and the woman was knocked to the ground, the Cherokee Sheriff's Office said.

Henson is scheduled to be arraigned on these charges at 9 a.m. Dec. 12 in courtroom 2A at the Cherokee County Justice Center.
