- The Canton Police Department is bringing the issue of elder abuse to light, advising anyone that has an elderly family member, friend or neighbor be aware of the signs of elder abuse. At times, elders can't speak for themselves for one reason or another, and those in the care of an in-home caregiver or in an assisted living facility can be at risk. Look out for unexplained injuries, weight loss, the appearance of poor hygiene or nutrition, bed sores or there is a loss of money or concerning transactions. If you believe someone is in danger, please reach out to the proper authorities. You can find more information and resources here. (Canton PD via Facebook)
- Unwind Wednesday is back this week with Cherokee Recreation & Parks' "Pup Stars Dog Show." Wednesday's festivities will run from 5:30 to 8 p.m., if you'd like to enter your dog, just bring them with you to Cherokee Veterans Park a bit early to sign them up. Be sure to give other dogs plenty of space and keep yours leashed at all times. There will also be food trucks, vendors, music and more, so you can make a whole evening of it. The park address is 7345 Cumming Highway. (Cherokee Recreation & Parks)
- The Cherokee County Animal Shelter is advising we get our pets' microchips checked and updated, if needed, prior to the Fourth of July holiday. Pets of all types can be very frightened by fireworks and often run away. In fact, it's one of the busiest times of year for the shelter. If your pet isn't microchipped, the shelter offers that service free of charge during operating hours, Tuesday through Saturday. (Cherokee County Animal Shelter via Facebook)
