  1. The Canton Police Department put out a warning about the growing threat of phone scammers. The latest wave of scammers pretend they are officers or another official agency, and they use programs and apps that alter the phone number displayed on your caller ID to show the true agencies numbers. To be safe, Canton PD is advising that you register your phone number with the National Do Not Call Registry online here or by phone at 888-382-1222. Be sure to hang up on calls that seem fraudulent or suspicious and after you disconnect, call the actual agency at the correct number and verify that they did in fact call. Don't rely on caller ID to properly identify the caller. A steadfast rule should be to never give any personal information to callers, and don't send money to anyone you don't know personally. (Canton Police Department via Facebook)
  2. Thanks to funding from the City of Canton Downtown Development Authority, North Street is getting some upgrades in the form of a new sanitation enclosure for the businesses along the street and a grease trap to service the restaurants. The left lane of North Street, from the Dupree Street and North Street corner over to the crosswalk at Cannon Park, is now closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic while the work is done. The goal is to have the project completed within six weeks, but that timeline may change if the weather causes delays. (Canton City News)
  3. The Mill on Etowah is bringing back the Etowah Wildlife Expo for a second year. The event will be on March 25 - 26 and Bass Tubs of Oklahoma will be there for all to enjoy. There will be animals, exhibits, artists, more than 100 vendors, a falconry educational show, bass fishing demonstrations, a reptile show and much more. Each day, the expo will run from noon - 6 p.m., with an outdoor concert from 6 - 8 p.m. If you'd like to set up shop at the event as a vendor, the application form is active on the website. (Etowah Wildlife Expo)
  4. A rollover crash on I-575 shut down the left lane of the northbound side yesterday afternoon. The accident was near the Towne Lake Parkway exit in Woodstock. Thankfully, only minor injuries were sustained, and the accident was cleared by the evening, around 6 p.m. (Free: Woodstock PD via Facebook and Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
  5. The Service League of Cherokee County is holding its 5th Annual "Golfing FORE! the Children" golf tournament on June 16. The event will be held at Fairways of Canton and funds raised will help with the Service League's ongoing work with children in the county. There's some time before the application window closes for sponsors on May 26, so if you'd like to sponsor this year's event, head to their website to learn more about the event, registering to play and sponsorship levels.
