Canton Star Student Graduates With Honors: Meet Katie

Canton, GA — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

She is my daughter

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Katie lost her dad to cancer when she was in 5th grade. We had a really tough time because he didn’t have life insurance ... So much more to the story but even though her life was uprooted and changes in every way possible- she still is graduating with honors and will begin college at NGC in the fall. She excelled in both high school classes this year along with taking college classes online. And still managed to play basketball (has played every year since kindergarten),flag football, and participate in DECA where she went to the world summit in California with a select few students from her school. She is a warrior! Strong, beautiful and smart. I believe she should be honored for all she has persevered!

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

She is stronger than she knows!
