  1. Looking to make a career change? Next Wednesday, Sep. 28, the Cherokee Office of Economic Development will host the 8th Annual Cherokee Career Expo from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Northside Cherokee Conference Center. Nearly 40 employers from around Cherokee County will be at the event looking to fill over 1,000 positions in fields ranging from human resources to manufacturing. Representatives from several local colleges and organizations will also offer resume review assistance beginning at 1:00 p.m. (Press Release Desk)
  2. Have you signed up yet for the BRAVe (Bike Riders Against Violence) Motorcycle Ride on Oct. 1? The second annual ride will begin at 10:30 a.m., with riders taking off from Reformation Brewery. Riders are encouraged to stick around afterward for live music, food, and activities. Participants can register online in advance or on-site starting at 9:00 a.m. on the day of the race.   3. On Tuesday, the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners considered a proposal to award roughly $2.8 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to local nonprofits. The sum is part of a $6 million budget in ARPA funds earmarked by the county for homelessness and assistance to impacted nonprofit agencies. The Boys and Girls Club, Bethesda Medical, and Goodwill of North Georgia are among the organizations with recommended projects being considered for this initial round of funding.   4. State School Superintendent Richard Woods named 31 parents from across the state to serve on the 2022-2023 Parent Advisory Council, including Gabriela Vazquez of the Cherokee County School District. The council will meet a total of three times throughout the year to discuss education challenges in Georgia and brainstorm ways to increase parent and family engagement. Parents are nominated to serve on the PAC by their local school district at the beginning of every new school year. (All On Georgia)
  5. Calling all prospective pet parents: the Cherokee Humane Society has plenty of adorable, adoptable cats and dogs awaiting their forever homes. You can browse the shelter's residents and filter by breed, age, gender, and size.
