Cherokee Schools Make Decision On Dec. 11 Schedule

The National Weather Service said several metro Atlanta counties could have black ice on roadways early Tuesday morning.

CANTON, GA — The Cherokee County School District said it will open on a two-hour delay on Tuesday, Dec. 11 due to the threat of black ice that is expected around metro Atlanta.

Buses will pick up two hours late, but the school day will end at its normal time. CCSD said it will "closely monitor conditions overnight to determine if further action is needed." For its Preschool Centers, full-day preschools will operate on a two-hour delay while half-day morning and half-day afternoon preschool sessions are both canceled.

The National Weather Service issued a warning indicating that several metro Atlanta counties may have black ice on roadways as temperatures plunge below freezing early Tuesday morning. Cherokee County students, educators and parents should stay tuned to local media as well as the system's Twitter and Facebook accounts and website for any change in information.

Cherokee Charter Academy also said on its Facebook page that it will open on a two-hour delay, with carpooling beginning at 9:20 a.m. Please note there will be no before-school care.

Chattahoochee Technical College also announced it will delay opening until 10 a.m. for all of its campuses, including its facilities in Canton and Woodstock. Reinhardt University in Waleska has also followed suit, and will open at 10 a.m.

The city of Canton has also delayed opening until 10 a.m.
