  • New data released by the state Department of Education found the Cherokee County School District’s Class of 2022 reached a record-high four-year graduation rate. The historic rate was 92.3 percent, nearly two full points higher than CCSD’s Class of 2021 rate. The statewide average also reached a record high, climbing to 84.1 percent last year.   • The Great Pumpkin Fest is right around the corner! Stop by Cherokee Veterans Park on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for this free event featuring hayrides, a petting zoo, axe throwing, and more. Don't forget to dress up!   • The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners is seeking public feedback on its 2023 Comprehensive Plan for the county. The board will hold two community meetings from 6:00-7:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the Northside Cherokee Conference Center and Oct. 19 at the Woodstock Recreation Center.   • The last First Friday of the year takes place today, Oct. 7, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in Downtown Canton! This month’s live musical entertainment will be provided by On The Border: The Ultimate Eagles Tribute band.   • History buffs, rejoice! The opening date for the Cherokee County History Center has finally been announced. The museum, which documents the history of Cherokee County spanning from its earliest Native American Inhabitants to today, will open to the public on Nov. 25. It will operate from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays-Saturdays, 12:00-5:00 p.m. on Sundays, and be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. (History Cherokee)
