  1. The moratorium on development, rezoning and construction applications for the Sixes Road and I-575 interchange area has been extended by the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners. Now at 150 days, the moratorium was initially put in place in February to allow the county, Holly Springs and Woodstock to flesh out their joint plan for the area. There were many items on the agenda, but in brief, the board approved a change to the zoning ordinance that removes the sound provision related to ATV's and allows sound restrictions to be enforced under the general noise ordinance of the county and they approved funds for the renovation of the Circle of Friends' Flourish Café, the North Georgia Angel House and Canton First Baptist for parking lot security improvements. 2. Teens and young adults looking for a summer job, internship or volunteer opportunity have a great event coming up — the Jobs & Resources Fair for Teens and Young Adults. There will be tons of local opportunity in the companies represented at the fair, you can see the full listing at the link. Mentors will be available to help you fine-tune your resume and give you some tips on interviewing, there will be free snacks and drinks and raffle prizes are also being handed out. The fair will be held on April 24, from 3 - 6 p.m. in the City Hall Auditorium, located at 110 Academy Street. (Canton News)
  3. Students at River Ridge High School in Woodstock were evacuated yesterday morning due to a bomb threat made towards the school. The emergency clearing of the school began at 11:15 a.m. when students were sent to safe locations nearby, and just before noon, students were formally dismissed and sent home by bus or picked up by parents. A thorough sweep of the school by several K-9 units revealed no devices or actual threat, but after-school activities were cancelled while the investigation continued. School will start back up this morning. The Cherokee County School District Police Department has asked that anyone with information contact them at 770-704-4354 or make a report through the district's Vector Alert System by text, web, email or phone. You can find the alert system here. Tips can be made anonymously. (Woodstock-Towne Lake Patch)
  4. A rezoning request put before the Holly Springs City Council to create a martial arts training center next to J.B. Owens Park was approved. The property is a bit less than an acre and will be switched from residential to commercial so that the Krav Maga Forge training center can be created on the lot using the existing house. The 1,00 square foot upper level of the house will be used for reception, office space and storage, and the training space will be built out in the 800 square foot basement space. 5. The Cherokee Sheriff's Office is asking for help identifying a vehicle captured on security camera during an alleged trailer theft in Acworth earlier this month. On March 8, at the intersection of Old Alabama Road and Cherokee Parkway West in Acworth, what appears to be an early- to mid-1980s Ford pickup truck attached and removed a black, 2022 Gorilla utility trailer with metal mesh sides, a wood floor and may have the license plate TV41B93 displayed. If you have any information about the incident, pick up truck or trailer, please contact the Sheriff's Office at 770-928-0239 or 9-1-1. You can reference case #SO23-003438.
