  1. Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) has started their annual fire hydrant inspections and maintenance around the county. As the work is done, sediment in the water may cause discoloration. If it does happen, it should be brief and does not pose a risk to us. If you do notice discoloration, run your cold water for a bit. If this doesn't fix it within 10 minutes, please reach out to your water provider for further help. Work will also include the upkeep or creation of a three-foot clearance area around fire hydrants to ensure they are accessible and visible year round. If you have any questions about the ongoing inspections and maintenance, please contact the County Fire Marshal at 678-493-6290. (CCFES via Facebook)
  2. The YMCA of Cherokee County is collecting gently used sports equipment for families to use during the free Healthy Kids Day event on April 29. If you have equipment to donate, they are accepting all kinds, including football, soccer, baseball, running and tennis equipment, sports shoes and balls. The donation window is open until April 27, you can bring items over to the lobby of the Y, at 151 Waleska Street in Canton. If you have any questions, please reach out to Rommel Ritarita by email at rommelr@ymcaatlanta.org. (YMCA of Cherokee County)
  3. Susan Treadaway, the Acting District Attorney in Cherokee County, will be officially taking over the role of district attorney for the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit. Taking over for Shannon Wallace, Treadaway was named the Acting District Attorney in January after previously holding the role of chief assistant district attorney in Cherokee, and in Cobb County prior to that. The swearing-in ceremony will be sometime in the future, the county will release details as they come. (Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
