Developer Wants To Build Concrete Plant Near Etowah River

A community meeting is planned for Thursday, Oct. 25 at the Airport Industrial Park Fire Station Community Room in Ball Ground.

CANTON, GA — A community meeting is planned for Thursday so residents can learn more about a proposal to build a concrete plant just north of the Etowah River in Canton. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 at the Airport Industrial Park Fire Station Community Room in Ball Ground.

According to a letter shared with Patch by a reader, Keith Drive Investors LLC is seeking to rezone 10 acres at the end of Keith Drive behind Walmart in Canton from agricultural to light industrial so they can operate a concrete batch plant.

The letter indicates the land is home to three radio broadcast towers and situated mostly in a flood zone. To the north lies commercial property surrounding Walmart, while the east side is home to another business and the west is the right of way of Interstate 575. The Etowah River lies to the south of the property. If approved, the property would include a mixer, silo and two buildings, the letter indicates.

Since the property is in unincorporated Cherokee County, Keith Drive Investors will have to go through the county's planning process to get approval. An online search of records indicates the developers have not submitted any plans for county planning and zoning staff to review. Michael Chapman, zoning manager with Cherokee County, said the developer has to hold the community before submitting any plans to the county.

The Fire Station Community Room is located at 1190 Evenflo Drive in Ball Ground.
