  1. Etowah High School was declared "all clear" after a bomb threat was called in on Wednesday. As of Thursday morning, the Cherokee County School District announced "no evidence of a bomb was found on the campus, but authorities are continuing to investigate the threat."(Cherokee Tribune & Ledger News)
  2. Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News reported that Hurricane Ian is slowing down and has shifted away from Cherokee County. Once a Category 5 storm, Hurricane Ian has been downgraded to a tropical storm after it made landfall in Florida.   3. The last Unwind Wednesday of the season is taking place next week! On Wednesday, Oct. 5, head to Cherokee Veterans Park in Canton to enjoy food trucks, live music, and more. The event takes place from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (Cherokee County, Georgia via Facebook)
  4. We're almost officially in the month of October - looking for things to do in the area? Take a trip to Saint Germain French Bakery & Cafe in Atlanta for Halloween-themed French dishes on Oct. 27. If you're up for a further drive, Decatur is hosting its Beer Festival in mid-October.   5. Friends and family are mourning Rick Bailey of Cherokee County who passed away on Sep. 24. Born on Apr. 25, 1954, Bailey was a member of the Canton First United Methodist Church and founder of the insurance agency, Rick Bailey & Company. He received several awards for his contributions to the insurance industry such as Georgia Health Underwriter of the Year, Atlanta Health Underwriter of the Year, and the National Distinguished Service Award. He also held industry leadership roles including NAHU Regional Vice President, GAHU President, and AAHU President. (Legacy.com)
