Lightning Strike Caused Canton Fire: Investigators
Fire investigators haven't yet determined the cause of the early
CANTON, GA — An early Thursday morning fire destroyed a home on Spruce Manor Court, according to a release from Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services. Responders arrived around 5 a.m. after neighbors called to find heavy fire coming from the home.
Firefighters didn't know at the time whether there was anybody inside, but later learned the family of five was away on vacation.
Authorities alter said the fire was caused by a lightning strike.

The home was a total loss, Battalion Chief Kevin Lanier said, according to the release. Luckily, there were no injuries reported.
A GoFundMe set up by John Eichenberger asks the community for donations for the Dahlen family, who lived in the house.

"Please help with anything you can by donating so they can buy needed clothing, food and essentials for themselves and their three kids. Need help from all the Bridgemill and Cherokee HS communities!" the GoFundMe says.
At about 10:40 a.m. Friday, 21 hours after they started the campaign, they've raised $9,952 out of their goal of $15,000. Over 100 donors have generously given an average of $93.
