Funeral On Friday For 2-Year-Old Run Over By Car

Lilly Franklin, 2, died Sunday from injuries sustained in the driveway of her home in Canton, the Cherokee Sheriff's Office said.

CANTON, GA — The family of a toddler who died over the weekend in a tragic accident at her home will say goodbye to the two-year-old during a funeral service set for Friday.

The service to bid farewell to Lilly Kay Franklin will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 31 in the chapel of Canton Funeral Home And Cemetery At Macedonia Memorial Park. According to her obituary, Lilly is survived by her parents, Joshua Franklin and Cydney Unck of Canton, and brother, Eastyn Franklin.

Lilly passed away Sunday, Aug. 26 from injuries she sustained when she was hit by a vehicle early Friday evening in the driveway of her home in Canton's Keithsburg community. The Cherokee Sheriff's Office told Patch that Lilly and another child were at their home on Ball Ground Highway with their uncle, who lives with the family. The uncle's employer dropped by the residence to deliver a paycheck, CSO spokesperson Jay Baker said. Both children were on the front porch with their uncle when the employer arrived at the home.

The employer and the uncle met for a short time, with the employer "never exiting the vehicle or parking the car," Baker said. During that time, Lilly got under the vehicle and was hit by the employer. The children's parents were not at home at the time of the accident, Baker said.

The toddler was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital and flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite where she died of her injuries. Baker notes the incident is being investigated by the Cherokee Sheriff's Office Traffic Enforcement Unit, but no charges are expected to be filed.

A PlumFund page has been created to raise $5,000 for the family. As of Thursday afternoon, a little more than $4,800 has been raised to help Lilly's family. Members of the family confirmed Lilly's identity with Patch and shared the link to the PlumFund page, which can be accessed here.
