Officer Shot In The Face To Be Released From Hospital

A homecoming for a Georgia officer who was hospitalized after he was shot in the face may impact traffic on Tuesday.

CANTON, GA — A Georgia police captain who was hospitalized after being shot while responding to a suspicious person call is coming home Tuesday, Cherokee County officials said.

McCaysville Police Capt. Brantley Worley, who is a Cherokee County resident, has been recovering in a Chattanooga, Tennessee hospital, county officials said. Worley was reportedly shot in the face in the line of duty Friday.

His return to Georgia on Tuesday afternoon will be stamped with a police escort from the Tennessee State Patrol and the Georgia State Patrol, county officials said.

Once the processional reaches Interstate 575 south in Cherokee, local law enforcement and public safety members will join as Worley heads to his Canton home.

County officials initially said Worley will be arriving at the Cherokee-Pickens county line between 5 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. and at I-575 at Exit 14 Holly Springs Parkway around 5:30 p.m.; however, they later said there was about an hour delay.

"Motorists are encouraged to exercise patience if they are traveling when the escort travels southbound on I-575. ... Members of the public are welcome to show their support for Capt. Worley as he returns home to recover from his injuries suffered in the line of duty," county officials said in a news release.

Previously, McCaysville Police Chief and Public Safety Director Michael Earley said the shooting happened around 11:15 p.m. Friday at 1st Street.

The accused gunman, Timothy Craig Ramsey, 26, was arrested around 6 p.m. Saturday after an hours-long multiagency manhunt, Earley said. Ramsey faces charges of aggravated assault with intent to murder a police officer, Earley said.

Before joining the McCaysville Police Department, county officials said a teenage Worley worked as an explorer for Canton Police.
