  1. Harmon Park in the Sunnyside community broke ground on Friday, Sep. 2, with Canton leaders, local officials, representatives from Cherokee Impact Soccer and Canton Dizzy Dean, and community members in attendance. The project is expected to cost $4.3 million and take approximately one year to complete, according to city officials. (Cherokee Tribune Ledger News)
  2. The Cherokee County Animal Shelter is hosting a first-come, first-serve adoption this morning (Saturday, Sep. 3) starting at 10 a.m. You can see a list of all the available pets up for adoption, plus all available pet information, using this link. The $100 Adoption Fee includes Spay/Neuter, heartworm/leukemia testing, initial vaccinations, deworming, flea preventative, microchip, sample bag of food, and various other services.   3. Reformation Brewery, a Northern Georgia craft brewery with a taproom right here in Canton, has just released a limited edition "Common Thread" light Pale Ale in collaboration with History Cherokee. This brew features black tea and fresh lemon, delivering an "Arnold Palmer-esque experience," according to Reformation Brewery. While supplies last, Reformation Brewery will be donating $1 per pint/pack to support History Cherokee's mission to "inspire empathetic and engaged communities, cultivate a love of learning and greater understanding about our shared past, and serve as a trusted community resource for Cherokee County history."   4. Cherokee County government offices will be closed on Monday, Sep. 5 in observance of Labor Day. Government offices will reopen on Tuesday, Sep. 6 at 8 a.m. (Cherokee County, Georgia via Facebook)
  5. Pregnant people in Georgia may now use High Occupancy Vehicle or HOV lanes. This ruling comes after the state’s abortion law which now recognizes embryos and fetuses as persons with full rights. Fetuses and embryos are also included in Georgia population counts, and expecting parents can get a $3000 tax deduction for dependents on state taxes. (WABE 90.1 FM)
