- The Sequoyah Regional Library System has announced plans to renovate the Hickory Flat Public Library in Canton, pending a rebid for the project. The renovation will add to the existing space by about 7,800 square feet, expanding the existing community room and adding a “flex room.” Bids for the project are due Sep. 19, and the library board is slated to meet Sep. 27 to approve a construction contract. - Little River Elementary School unveiled a major makeover to its technology lab this week, featuring a colorful paint job with new workstations, furniture, and fun themes. The school’s PTA raised funds to renovate the lab and enhance students’ ability to work collaboratively. - Officials with the Cherokee County Airport say they expect to receive funds from the Federal Aviation Administration for a project to widen the runway in the first quarter of 2023. The project, which has been in the works since 2019, will see the existing 75-foot runway widened to 100 feet. The airport authority also plans to lengthen the runway by 1,000 feet in a separate project after the widening is complete. (Cherokee Tribune & Ledger News)
- Don't miss today's adoption event at Cherokee County Animal Shelter, beginning at 10:00 a.m.! This event is first-come, first-served, and interested parties will need to scan a QR code at the door to enter the virtual line. The $100 adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm and leukemia testing, initial vaccinations, deworming, a flea preventative, microchipping, a sample bag of food, and various other services. - It's official! The Taste & Brews Fall Festival will return to Canton on Oct. 15. The event will take place in Etowah River Park from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and feature a variety of drinks and meals, a vendor's market, and a kids' zone. Several musical artists, including singer-songwriter Marty Manous and Allman Brothers Band cover act Tribute, are slated to perform. (CBS 46 News)
