Here are the top five stories today in Canton-Sixes:

  1. A former Canton police officer and his wife are among the many people who lost everything to Hurricane Ian. Retired officer Scott Hoffman and his wife moved from Canton to Ft. Lauderdale in 2019; three years later, they lost everything — including their home — to the vicious storm that decimated Florida. The Canton Police Department has created a GoFundMe campaign in order to provide support for the former Canton couple. To learn more or donate, visit the link. (Fox5 Atlanta)
  2. On Monday night, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in Canton. Police are investigating the incident, in which a victim was hit near the Ball Ground Highway at Riverpoint Parkway at around 9:30 p.m. The driver fled the scene and has not been identified. (Cherokee Tribune & Ledger)
  3. Want to dedicate your career to serving the community? The City of Canton is currently hiring for multiple full-time positions. Available openings include Police Recruit and Utilities Engineer. Visit the city's website for job details and application information. (City of Canton, GA)
  4. Hunting for a new house online isn't as easy as it sounds. It's hard to get a feel for a home unless you visit it in person — and a lot of those online images don't give you the full story of your potential purchase. Browse this list to find five of the newest property listings in Canton-Sizes offering open houses. For more information or to schedule a viewing, visit the link. (Canton-Sixes Patch)
  5. Yesterday's (Oct. 12) Cherokee High School Homecoming Parade was canceled due to inclement weather. The parade was expected to cause numerous road closures and result in at least an hour of traffic for drivers. School officials do not have any plans to reschedule the event. The parade was part of a series of events to celebrate the upcoming Homecoming Dance. (Canton Police Department)
