Here are the top five stories in Canton-Sixes today:
- Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to a residential structure fire on Jennys Row in the southwestern area of unincorporated Cherokee County on Sunday morning around 10:49 a.m. Firefighters quickly located the blaze in a basement bedroom and were able to extinguish it before it extended to the rest of the home. The family’s dog and cat were also rescued from the fire, while the occupants of the home were able to escape without assistance or injury. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. - The Georgia Department of Transportation announced that State Route 5 at the Etowah River in Canton will have lanes closed periodically this week. Construction work for bridge repair is scheduled Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. Canton motorists are advised to expect delays and exercise caution while traveling through the work zone. (Cherokee Tribune Ledger News)
