- Investigators charged six suspects believed to be involved in illegal street racing, including a man from Canton. Camden David Usiatynski, 19, was charged with Reckless Stunt Driving, Reckless Driving, Laying Drags, and Concealing Tags. However, Usiatynski was released on bond for $5,855. (CBS 46 News)
- Local eementary schools will have more police presence this coming school year. Superintendent Brian Hightower announced on Thursday that Cherokee County School District elementary schools will have more school resource officers. This plan was formed after the deadly shooting in Uvalde, Texas in May. Hightower also announced plans to increase the size of the Cherokee County School Police Department's force in the next two years. (Tribune Ledger)
- The Sequoyah Library system is forgiving fines this summer. As announced yesterday, Sequoyah Regional Library System will forgive most library fines through July to promote its summer reading program, “Oceans of Possibilities.” Those with fines interested in learning more are encouraged to contact the library staff for more information. - The Planning Commission will meet in Canton on Monday. The upcoming work session meeting's agenda includes two zoning cases. It will take place at 6:30 PM in the Business Center at 1130 Bluffs Parkway, Canton, GA, 30114. (CherokeeGA.com)

- Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a structure fire at 4:38 yesterday morning on McCurley Road. Firefighters from stations 1, 8, 11, 19, and 20 were dispatched to the scene. A male occupant told fire crews he had escaped from the residence. Two dogs were initially found outside with the occupant but repeatedly went back into the house. Crews were able to get the canines out and secure. (Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services via Facebook)
- The Canton Police Department, GA enjoyed Popsicle with a Cop yesterday! Members of the police department had a great time handing out popsicles to the kids from Canton First Baptist in Brown Park during the children's vacation bible school. (Canton Police Department, GA via Facebook)
