  1. A new parking deck will enable easier parking in downtown Canton. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Oct. 6 to celebrate the parking deck's grand opening. The new parking deck is on Archer Street and West Marietta Street next to City Hall. (Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger News)
  2. Large crowds gathered for ham and beans on Saturday, Sep. 24, for the 54th annual Apple 'n Pork Festival. Donna Dillon, of Canton, began attending the festival 47 years ago. This year, she continued the tradition with her daughter and grandchildren. (Subscription: Herald Review)

Jim Gibbs, owner/developer of Gibbs Garden in Cherokee County, expanded the butterfly garden from three to 15 acres after the migratory monarch butterfly was added to the endangered list in July 2022. Gibbs Garden was named one of the "Thirteen Best Botanical Gardens in America" and The Atlanta Journal Constitution named it a top garden in Georgia. (All On Georgia)

  • Save the date for Cherokee Recreation and Parks Great Pumpkin Festival on Oct. 22! The event will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Cherokee Veterans Park. (Cherokee County, Georgia via Facebook)
  • The City of Canton announced lane closures on River Green Avenue starting Tuesday, Sep. 27, for six to eight weeks. The street will be undergoing traffic and utility improvements, including extending the left turn lane onto Knox Bridge Highway, as well as stormwater and sewer improvements.
