- The City of Canton will begin delivering new waste carts to residents next Monday, Sep. 19. The new carts are part of the City's transition from its current sanitation services provider to Waste Pro's trash and recycling services. Residents are advised to store the new carts until Oct. 1, when the new services begin. Waste collected in these carts will not be picked up until then. (City of Canton GA via Facebook)
- Cherokee County firefighters participated in the annual Terry Farrell Firefighters Fund 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb last weekend. The fundraiser at Truist Park honored the memories of the 343 firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty during the attacks on Sep. 11, 2001. The fundraiser directly benefitted the Georgia chapter of the Firefighters Fund, which supports the families of firefighters with educational and financial grants. (Canton-Sixes Patch)
- Cherokee County commissioners have revoked zoning approval for Vision Warriors, a faith-based addiction recovery center for men. Kirk Driscoll, the visionary behind the local nonprofit, says he received the proper documentation from the county to operate but believes the license is being revoked due to complaints from neighbors of the property, who have been vocal about their opposition to having the facility on their street. Driscoll and his legal team are currently working to appeal a decision by a federal judge that ruled in favor of the county's right to revoke the zoning approval. (11 Alive)
- Cherokee County officials shared information regarding funeral arrangements for the two Cobb County deputies killed in the line of duty on Sep. 8. Services for Deputy Jonathan Randall Koleski and Deputy Marshall Samual Ervin, Jr. will be held today and tomorrow at Northstar Church in Kennesaw and West Ridge Church in Dallas, respectively. Community members interested in learning more about assisting the families of these fallen officers are encouraged to contact the Cobb Sheriff's Foundation. (Cherokee County, Georgia via Facebook)
- Calling all prospective pet parents: the Cherokee Humane Society has plenty of adorable, adoptable cats and dogs awaiting their forever homes.
