  1. The Board of Commissioners made some moves in their June 6 meeting, including the forward progression of package store regulations in unincorporated Cherokee County. It was decided that the Development Service Center will be accepting applications from Sept. 1 at 9 a.m. to Oct. 31 at 5 p.m., with an ordinance in place requiring package stores to be, at minimum, 5,000 square feet and freestanding. Among other regulations, package stores must be at least 600 feet from a school or residence and 300 feet from any church, there must be at least 1 mile between liquor stores and only 1 license will be granted in each district. A fee structure will be decided later this month. (Cherokee County Communications Division)
  2. Caleb Guy, a Team USA and Special Olympics athlete, was celebrated at Chick-fil-A in Canton on Tuesday ahead of his trip to Germany. Guy and Team USA will be leaving today for the Special Olympics in Berlin, the competition will take place June 17-25. Guy is one of the 7,000 competitors from around 170 countries to compete this year, about 42 athletes will be competing in the sport of kayaking. The Flame of Hope, a symbol of peace, unity and hope, is currently on the way from Greece, and will arrive at the Opening Ceremony in Berlin on June 17. (WSB-TV and Special Olympics World Games)
  3. It takes time, honest effort and unconditional love to be a great father. And here at Patch, we celebrate greatness. Until June 15, you can shine the spotlight on the special father in your life by submitting your story here. Local 6-year-old Ocean M. wanted everyone to know that his father, Abraham M., is extra special "...because everyone is special. He is super kind and he does hard work like other people do." Ocean added, "I love my dad." (Woodstock-Towne Lake Patch)
