Here are the top stories in Canton-Sixes today:
- With swimming weather upon us, it's important to employ a few safety measures to ensure your pets' safety. The Cherokee County Animal Shelter wants us to know that undiluted pool chemicals are corrosive and can cause severe injuries to the mouth, throat and esophagus or death. Salt water pools and oceans can cause life-threatening hypernatremia if pets drink an excessive amount, and pool water contains chlorine and algaecides, these are dangerous to pets as well. Please check out the full list of safety tips at the link and contact your local veterinarian or Animal Poison Control Center at 888-426-4435 if you suspect your pet has been exposed to dangerous chemicals. (Cherokee County Animal Shelter via Facebook)
- The Canton Police Department gave us a nice refresher on the Move-Over Law this week on their Facebook page. The law requires drivers to move over by one lane for emergency vehicles stopped on the side of the highway, when possible, when their emergency lights are engaged. If traffic is too heavy to do so, drivers must slow down below the speed limit and get ready to stop for emergency personnel or activity. You can see a nice graphic at the link. (Canton PD via Facebook)
- The Cultural Arts Commission, City of Canton and Explore Canton are holding a ribbon cutting for the latest art installation in town. The latest mural, "Unite," was created on the surface of the Boling Park basketball court by artist Rob Walker-Bunda. The ribbon cutting is scheduled for 5-6 p.m. tomorrow at 1200 Marietta Highway. The artist will be at the event to talk about the design and vision behind the mural. (Canton City Calendar)
- It's time for the Canton River Rock Music Festival! The free, two-day event will bring music, food trucks, drink vendors, craft booths and an interactive kids' play area to Etowah River Park on July 21 and 22. The music will last throughout the festival, with a headlining, Saturday evening show featuring Sammy Kershaw, Aaron Tippin and Collin Raye performing as part of their Roots and Boots Tour. You can find more information on the official page here, if you're interested in sponsoring the event, please reach out to adam.dodson@cantonga.gov. (City of Canton via Facebook)
