Here are the top five stories today in Canton-Sixes:
- A man from nearby Holly Springs was arrested on public indecency charges Wednesday and transported to the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center. Canton Police Detectives identified a suspect accused of exposing himself during two separate incidents at a local Kohl's and Hobby Lobby as 48-year-old Donald Harris. Harris's case is still under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Canton Police Department at (770) 720-4883. (Canton Police Department, GA via Facebook)
- The Cherokee County Roadway Capital Program announced that Wiley Bridge Road at the Cox Road intersection will be closed to through traffic beginning Aug. 29. The road is scheduled to reopen on Sep. 30 pending completion of construction on the instersection. During the closure, travelers are advised to use a posted detour following West Wiley Bridge Road, King Circle, and SR 92. (Cherokee County, Georgia via Facebook)
- The Canton Police Department is hosting a Touch a Truck Event next Friday, Sep. 2, beginning at 3:45 p.m. The event will take place at 226 Harmon Circle in Canton and coincide with the groundbreaking ceremony for Harmon Park. - Cherokee County has been awarded a Historic Preservation Award from History Cherokee for its work to help restore the historic Hickory Flat Gymnasium. The $1.5 million restoration project kicked off last summer and included structural improvements, new utility services, ADA improvements, new HVAC, landscaping, and more. The facility reopened to the public in June this year and was one of six historic sites to receive an award at the Historic Preservation Awards Banquet earlier this month. - The YMCA of Cherokee County is hosting a free Family Night Hike next Friday, Sep. 2, starting at 8:15 p.m. During this exciting outdoor adventure class, participants will learn fun science facts and hear exciting stories from Adventure Coordinator Bob.
