- There are two meetings this evening at the Cherokee County Admin Complex with time allotted for citizens to speak. At 6 p.m., the Board of Commissioners is holding their regular meeting with time noted to hear comments from the public about a section of Linden Lane that's been abandoned in the VCCI community. If you have a stake in this item, you can see the agenda here. At 7 p.m., the Planning Commission is holding a public hearing with a handful of pretty standard rezoning requests, aside from two items that involve very large portions of land. There is a request for the rezoning of 75.32 acres on Reinhardt College Parkway to allow for construction of a 50-home subdivision and another request for 16.763 acres currently zoned as agricultural to be rezoned in part for the construction of a special event facility. If you'd like to be heard on these or any items on the agenda, you can find the official Rules of Procedure here. (Free: Cherokee County Calendar and Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
- Attention all parents, the enrollment period is now open for all children entering kindergarten and those new to the Cherokee County School District (CCSD) for the 2023-24 school year. The pre-k lottery will open later this month, running from March 20 - 31, but be sure to get your pre-k registration done as early as you can, the waitlist can get pretty long. Children enrolling in the pre-k program must be 4 years old on or before September 1, 2023. You can read more about kindergarten and new student enrollment here. (CCSD News)
- The Cherokee County School District (CCSD) has resources and help available for parents in the county. One great program out of the CCSD is Parent University, a series of classes created to help teachers, parents of homeschooled children and parents of children with disabilities guide their children towards successes at school and in the community. The series is free to attend and open to everyone. Topics will be different for each meeting, and on March 21, from 2:30 - 5:30 p.m., the district's "Agency Information Fair & Parent University" will feature a long list of organizations that have programs or resources to help students with disabilities. You can find the agenda for the class at the link. (CCSD Parent University)
- A man suspected of a drive-by shooting on Palm Street in Holly Springs was arrested and is now housed in the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center. The 47-year-old alleged shooter, Steven Nance from Dallas, Georgia, is suspected of firing into a home on Palm Street on Sunday and is now facing three counts of aggravated assault, one count of aggravated family violence, one count of criminal trespass and one count of possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime. No injuries were reported at the home. (WSB Radio and Holly Springs PD via Facebook)
