Here are the top five stories in and around Canton-Sixes today:

  1. The North Georgia Health District will be offering flu shots on Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The flu shots will be administered at a drive-thru at the Cherokee County Health Department in Woodstock. The flu shot is of no cost to those with acceptable health insurance plans. More information can be found here. (Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
  2. Old Europe Cheese, Inc., has issued a voluntary recall after a possible Listeria outbreak. Old Europe Cheese, Inc., is based in Benton Harbor, Michigan, and distributes its products throughout the United States, including here in Georgia. Cases of Listeria have also been reported in California, Texas, Michigan, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, and reports indicate they may be linked to the company's Brie and Camembert cheese products.   3. Looking for a new career opportunity that connects you with the greater Cherokee County community? Cherokee County is looking to hire for multiple full-time positions, including a water aerobics instructor, a part-time lab technician, and a bus driver.   4. The City of Canton will host a ribbon cutting for the Archer Street Parking Deck on Tuesday. The parking deck will double the number of parking spaces available and includes 10 EV charging stations and a solar array on the top of the structure to help decrease utility costs for City Hall. The ribbon cutting will begin at 5 p.m. (City of Canton via Facebook)
  5. In nearby Cumming, the Annual Cumming Lantern Parade will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. this year to recognize survivors of cancer. The event is hosted by the American Cancer Society of Forsyth County and floating lanterns will be available for purchase. The lanterns will float on the pond at Lou Sobh Amphitheater, creating a beautiful tribute well worth the 45-minute drive from the Canton-Sixes area. (Forsyth County News Online)
