- Two new businesses are coming to the Canton Exchange shopping center on the north side of Highway 20. A new building slated to contain a restaurant and veterinary clinic is currently under construction, though an estimated completion date has not yet been set. KPOP BBQ and Bar, a popular local chain with locations in Woodstock and other parts of the Atlanta metro area, is slated to occupy the restaurant space when it is completed. - The YMCA of Cherokee County is hosting its monthly food distribution today, Sep. 6. Stop by the G. Cecil Pruett Community Center & Family YMCA to collect your food box, starting at 4:00 p.m. and lasting until supplies run out. Can't make it? - The Cherokee County Farm Bureau announced the winners of its annual pie contest on Monday. Skylar Barrington and Madeleine Haney of Canton were awarded first and second place in the Youth and Adult divisions, respectively. Canton resident Paula Elias also beat out bakers from around the county to win second place in the Professional division for her Declaration Custard Pie. (Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
- Mark your calendars for Tailgate with a Firefighter on Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Mill on Etowah. Join Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services for fire trucks, food, and plenty of family-friendly activities, including face painting and a “Dress Like a Firefighter” contest. Tickets are $1 each, and all proceeds from the event will go to help fund fire safety education. (Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services via Facebook)
- The Laurel Canyon Optimist Club recently awarded a check for $1,800 to Clayton Elementary School in Canton. The funds will go to help purchase new classroom rugs for Clayton Elementary’s kindergarten classrooms. Last year, the group also provided five new iPads to the schools Early Intervention Program department.
