  1. Cherokee County is now in a state of emergency due to Hurricane Ian. It went into effect this morning at 7:00 a.m. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp declared a state of emergency for all of the state's counties. Georgia's State Operations Center has been activated to respond to Hurricane Ian. The tropical storm is expected to leave Georgia on Sunday. (Effingham Herald)
  2. Cherokee County officials have unveiled Richard "Hunky" Mauldin Sports Complex park improvements. The project was made possible through a $250,000 grant awarded by Pilgrim's Hometown Strong initiative and $750,000 worth of Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax. The park's tennis court was resurfaced, pickleball courts were created, and the park was re-landscaped through the project. (Subscription: AJC.com)
  3. Cherokee County Schools' Etowah High School on Putnam Ford Drive was evacuated on Wednesday. The emergency evacuation is in response to a reported bomb threat. The district's spokesperson reports that state and local law enforcement agencies are taking the threat seriously. Law enforcement has conducted a full sweep of the school. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  4. During Republican U.S. Senate candidate Herschel Walker's campaign stop in Canton, he defined women as "the rib of a man." The controversial answer was given when an individual asked Walker to "define what a woman is". (The Black Wall Street Times)
  5. Canton's last First Friday will be held downtown on Friday, Oct. 7 at 6:00 p.m. Participants will be serenaded by an authentic Eagles Tribute band, "On the Border". In addition to live music, there will be late-night shopping, late-night food, axe throwing, and a kid's zone. Don't forget to bring a chair. (City of Canton)
