  1. A local teenager was arrested last week after allegedly being found in possession of a backpack containing a loaded pistol and marijuana. Authorities say the 17-year-old Cherokee High School student was attempting to enter a football game with the contraband when he was caught. No threats were made toward students or staff, but the suspect faces charges including carrying a weapon on school property and possession of marijuana. (Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News Podcast)
  2. Help clean up Cherokee County by joining the Cherokee County Water and Sewerage Authority (CCSWA) for a volunteer cleanup of the Etowah River on Oct. 8. The event is part of a statewide effort to preserve Georgia's waterways, and participants will earn a free lunch and tee shirt in exchange for their contribution. The cleanup will begin at the Upper Etowah River Alliance office in Canton at 9:00 a.m. (Cherokee Tribune Ledger News)
  3. Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services revealed new street signs this week honoring the memory of community members Justin and Amber Hicks, who passed away last year. Justin Hicks had served as a firefighter in the county since 2015 and held the rank of Fire Apparatus Operator/Paramedic.   4. Don't forget to join your Cherokee County neighbors for a Patriot Day ceremony tomorrow, Sep. 9. The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Public Safety Memorial at Rotary Park in Downtown Canton.
