  1. Tickets are on sale now for the next movie in the Family Summer Movie Series. Up on June 22 is "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," showing at the Canton Theatre at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. You can purchase your $1 tickets here, the movies in the series are shown twice every Thursday in June and July. The next movie will be "Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile" on June 29, tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. on June 23 online here. (City of Canton via Facebook)
  2. It was announced that three area students were awarded scholarships from LGE Community Credit Union. Awarded $2,500 from the LGE Community Credit Union Scholarship Program were Woodstock High School's Sarah Brooks and Cherokee High School's Summer McRoy, and Creekview High School's Cassidy Tanner received a $1,000 scholarship from the Positive Athlete LGE Extra Credit Award. The total of the scholarships received by students in Bartow, Cherokee, Cobb, Douglas, Fulton and Paulding counties was $32,500. (Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
  3. In other school news, the Cherokee County School Board approved the budget for the 2023-24 school year this week, and it includes $20 million to put towards teacher and support staff salary increases and the funding of recruitment and retention bonuses. The $538 million budget also includes the completion of Cherokee High School and Free Home Elementary School. The millage rate will stay put at 17.95 mills.   4. The Hickory Flat Kitchen is now open in the Hickory Flat Village shopping center. The restaurant features an upscale menu and a full bar, and the restaurant owners boast fresh produce, meat and poultry brought in almost daily. Vegetarian options are readily available, and most menu items are already gluten-free or can be made so. The restaurant will offer catering and to-go services in the near future. If you'd like to give it a try, the address is 6205 Hickory Flat Highway, they're open until 10 p.m. tonight and 9 p.m. tomorrow.   • Canton Farmers Market: Head down to Brown Park, between the Cherokee County History Museum and the Canton Police Department, where you'll find tons of locally grown food items, including produce, baked goods, flowers and other food-related goods every Saturday. (9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.)

  • Secret River Sounds, Healing Sound Immersion: Bring along a yoga mat, a blanket and a pillow to get comfortable. Horizon Healing Center is located at 182 North St. (noon - 1:15 p.m.)
  • Cherokee County NAACP Juneteenth Celebration: The party is at The Mill on Etowah, out on The Green, 225 Reformation Parkway. (1 - 5 p.m.)
  • Family Dance: Paula's Zzerts is hosting, there will be music and fun for all ages in the family-friendly evening. Refreshments will be served, bring along a new toy, book or clothing item to donate to The Children's Haven and you'll get a treat. (7 p.m.)
  • WPSL - Georgia Impact vs. Charlotte Eagles: Watch a Women's Professional Soccer League game at Cherokee High School. There will also be food trucks, merchandise for sale, games, a kids' zone, concessions and more. The address is 930 Marietta Highway. (7 - 10:30 p.m.)
  • "A Bad Year For Tomatoes" - The play follows Myra Marlowe, as she moves into a house in New England to write an autobiography amidst her struggles with privacy and her neighbors. The performance will be held at the Canton Theatre, 171 E. Main St. (8 - 10 p.m.)

Sunday, June 18

  • Texas Style Breakfast: Paula's Zzerts and The Smokin' Texan are hosting, and the food will be served until it's gone. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and there will be cornhole and sidewalk chalk to entertain the little ones. The good eats will be at 140 Keith Drive. (11 a.m. - 2 p.m.)
  • Maker's Mash: Shop local artists, crafters and creators at Reformation Brewery, 225 Reformation Parkway. (1 - 6 p.m.)
  • Braves Game on The Big Screen: Watch the Atlanta Braves with your friends and neighbors at The Mill on Etowah, 225 Reformation Parkway. (1:35 - 4 p.m.)
  • Bike Night: Join your friends and neighbors for a family-friendly Bike Night at Canton Icehouse. Children eat free, riders get 15 percent off, and there will be live music with Mike Brookshire. Head over with your bike, Canton Icehouse is located at 150 Keith Drive. (4 - 7 p.m.)

  • The Cherokee County Animal Shelter has a nice surprise for us at their adoption event today, all dogs are free to adopt, and kittens are "adopt 1, get 1 free." The available animals can be seen online here, please follow the instructions found at the link for getting into the "virtual line." Adoption hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and the shelter is located at 1015 Univeter Road in Canton. (Cherokee County Animal Shelter via Facebook)
  • There will be lots of car at The Mill on Etowah today, the PoBoys Car Club Cruise-In is happening from 3-6 p.m. There will be plenty of classics and modern cars alike, The Mill is at 225 Reformation Parkway. (The Mill on Etowah)
  • The next Coffee with a Cop is happening on June 22 at the G. Cecil Pruett Community Center Family YMCA. Head over for an informal chat with officers from the Canton Police Department, they'll be there starting at 9 a.m. The YMCA is located at 151 Waleska St. (Canton PD via Facebook)
