  1. The Canton Police Department posted a very informative list of things to do if you find yourself in an accident. To run through the basics, first and foremost, never leave the scene. All involved drivers must, by law, stay put and wait for officers. It's a good rule of thumb to pay attention to the details of the other vehicle, and if they leave the scene, be sure to get as much information as you can. Note the description of the driver and vehicle, the license plate number, any identifiers like stickers or damage and the direction the vehicle went. (Canton PD via Facebook)
  2. The Cherokee County School District (CCSD) offers special programs called Pathways that teach students job skills and guide them towards their career goals. Students in high school that are enrolled in the Aviation or Cybersecurity Pathway have the option of attending elective classes at the Cherokee College and Career Academy (C3), busses are even available for children that need transportation. There is an open house at C3 on March 30 for prospective students and their parents to learn about the school and the Pathway courses available there. C3 is located at 8871 Knox Bridge Highway in Canton, and you can drop in any time between 5 - 7 p.m. for the open house. The flyer says that applications are still being accepted for the upcoming 2023-24 school year. (CCSD News)
  3. Cherokee Recreation & Parks posted a wonderful reminder that they offer memorial brick pavers that we can have engraved to honor a veteran. If you haven't had a chance to see it yet, there is a beautiful, star-shaped monument at Cherokee Veterans Park that honors those that have served our country in the military. The monument has sections in tribute to each branch of the military and a special area dedicated to prisoners of war and those who are missing in action. If you'd like to pay tribute to a veteran, there is an option to purchase a 4/8-inch brick paver that holds up to three lines of text or an 8-by-8 inch paver that holds six lines of text or three lines of text and a military seal. The funds raised through the sale of the brick pavers are used for the design, construction and maintenance of the monument. (Cherokee Recreation & Parks via Facebook)
  4. Approximately one acre bordering JB Owens Park in Holly Springs may be the future site of a self defense training center. A request to rezone the land from residential to commercial was discussed at the Holly Springs City Council meeting on Monday. The applicant, Krav Maga Forge, has existing locations in Woodstock and Snellville, and the city council will be voting on the request during their March 20 meeting. The city council also voted to extend the moratorium on new applications related to zoning, development or construction at the Sixes Road and I-575 Interchange to allow time for the county, Woodstock and Holly Springs to complete their planning of the area. The moratorium now stands at 180 days. (Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
