Here are the top three stories in Canton-Sixes today:
- Unwind Wednesdays are coming back to Cherokee Veterans Park! The evening, family-friendly events are focused each time, with the first one on April 26 called "Yoga in the Park." Michel Delifer from Ember Hot Yoga in Downtown Woodstock will lead the first and second events in the series, and the third event on June 28 is listed as "Pup Stars Dog Show." I can't wait to see the details on that one! You can bring your lawn chairs and blankets with you. Each event will include food trucks, vendors, music and much more. Unwind Wednesdays are held from 5:30 - 8 p.m. on the last Wednesday of each month, April through October. (Cherokee Recreation & Parks)
- The Cherokee Sheriff's Office has a scam warning to share with us. Please know that the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol does not ask for money over the phone. If you get a call saying that a package of yours has been intercepted, it's not true. In the scam scenario, the caller will tell you that sending them money will somehow resolve the issue. Don't send the money. If you've been a victim of fraud, a scam or bad business practices, you can make a report to the Federal Trade Commission, the government agency that works to protect consumers, on their official website here. (Cherokee Sheriff's Office via Facebook)
- A residential home was heavily damaged in a fire on Monday afternoon. The home near Pearidge Road and Reinhardt College Parkway was filled with flames and smoke when firefighters arrived. They conducted a search and found nobody inside and reported no injuries. The north end of Pearidge Road was opened up to through-traffic before evening. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
