Here are the top four stories today in Canton-Sixes:
- Cherokee Recreation & Parks has some great offerings this month, including a few Easter-themed events. Parent's Night Out at the Aquatic Center is going on twice this month - on March 10 and 24, you can drop off the kids for some swimming, eating, crafting, games and a movie while you are out and about. The next Dive In Movie will be on March 31 and the movie will be "Free Willy." Coming up for the Easter season, the Some Bunny Special program is going on until April 7, you can donate a basket and bring a smile to a little one's face. There will be an Easter Hiking Scavenger Hunt on March 29, a Flashlight Egg Hunt on March 31 and the EGGS-traordinary Spring Extravaganza will be on April 8. Children of all ages are invited to the Outdoor Egg Hunt and several time slots for the Underwater Egg Hunt. (Cherokee Recreation & Parks)
- If you're curious about the Georgia Gold Rush, History Cherokee is holding a lecture on April 25 featuring Jose Santamaria, director of the Tellus Science Museum and author. You'll learn about the origin of Georgia's gold, when it was found, how it was brought out of the earth and historical accounts of the ups and downs of the area's gold rush. The lecture is part of History Cherokee's free, bi-monthly series "Hear, Here." You can register here for the event, it is being held at 221 East Marietta Street. (History Cherokee)
- A young Canton man was killed on Saturday in Bellevue, Tennessee, when he walked onto a roadway and was struck by a vehicle. Christian Owens, 21, was visiting Bellevue to celebrate his birthday with friends when the tragic incident occurred. No charges are expected to be filed. (Fox 17)
- A home in Woodstock was the scene of a harrowing rescue on Saturday. Waterproofing work was being done on a home on Hilltop Lane, when a worker in a trench was trapped as it collapsed around him. The man was buried up to his neck, and the incident required a joint effort from Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) and Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services to dig him out. The call came in around 1:30 p.m., and the man was out of the trench and on his way to the hospital around 3:45 p.m. He was reported as stable upon treatment and observation at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.
