Here are the top five stories in Canton-Sixes today:
- The 16-year-old female who was arrested for human trafficking, kidnapping, and multiple other charges at a traffic stop in Canton is in custody at a regional youth detention center. The Canton Police Department said the traffic stop was on North Street near Railroad Street in Canton on the morning of Jun. 22. The 13-year-old victim was reunited with her family and Chief Stephen Merrifield said, "I would like to express my gratitude for the exceptional work of our Officers and Detectives in this case. By taking a routine traffic stop and conducting an exceptional investigation, members of the Canton Police Department forever changed a young girl’s life for the better." (All On Georgia)
- Xander Riddle, a Sequoyah High School class of 2022 graduate, won the Exceptional Youth Scholarship from the Global Sports Foundation, a $10,000 national scholarship recognizing community service, volunteerism, and mentorship. The scholarship is only awarded to ten students each year. Riddle graduated in the top five percent of his class and is attending the University of Georgia in the fall. - The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners decided to wait until their meeting next week to make a decision about an application for zoning modifications. The application seeks to modify zoning conditions for a new life skills training facility for people with disabilities. (Spot On Georgia)
- On Saturday, Jul. 2, Horizon Healing Center is hosting a free yoga class at Brown Park, located at 251 E. Marietta Street in Canton. The hour-long class is for everyone, beginners and advanced. (Canton-Sixes Patch)
