Here are the top five stories today in Canton-Sixes:
- A 15-year-old girl from Etowah High School has been arrested for a bomb threat she made last month. The teen, who as a minor is not being identified by police, has been charged with felony terroristic threats after calling in a bomb threat to her school on Sep. 28. Officers were able to identify her by looking over phone records of calls made to the school that day. The student is being held at the Marietta Youth Detention Center without bond (Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News via Facebook)
- A Cherokee High School alum recently won an Emmy. Cherokee County native Jeanie Phillips, a 2000 graduate of Cherokee High School, won an Emmy for Outstanding Picture Editing For A Structured Reality Or Competition Program for her work on the Amazon Prime original show, "Lizzo’s Watch Out For The Big Grrrls." - October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and with that in mind, county officials are working to raise awareness about the disease and the importance of regular screening. North Georgia county health departments are holding various breast cancer awareness events throughout the rest of the month. Many of the events will offer free breast exams and screenings. - Making plans for family-friendly activities next week? Your local libraries have plenty of fun fall events for the whole family to enjoy. - The Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services team faced off against a raging structure fire on Wednesday. Firefighters responded to a call from Sky Lane Drive near Kellogg Creek Road just before 11:00 a.m. The fire was contained and eventually put out by firefighters, and the structure was overhauled. No injuries were reported, but an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. (Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services via Facebook)
